MINE IS A WORLD ONE MAN WIDE AND SIX FEET DEEP, AND THE WALLS ARE AS BLACK AS COAL SING YOU CANARY, SING YOUR SONG BEFORE THE AIR RUNS LOW AND LIKE HOUNDS WE'LL HOWL AT THE MOON, AND THE HAZE WILL CALL OUR NAMES. THE SEASONS WILL CHANGE ALTHOUGH WE'RE NONE THE WISER SO HERE WE'LL STAY, RIGHT HERE FOR JUST A LITTLE LONGER ALL MEN CARRY BUCKETS AND SPADES, TOWING GRIME BEHIND THEM THROUGH THIS DARK MAZE AND IN THE LOW LIGHT, THEIR SKIN LOOKS TANNED THE COLOUR OF GOLD FORGET THE DAYS AS THEY CHURN DEEPER DOWN, FORGET THE DAYS AS THEY LAY DEEP IN THE GROUND, AND THEIR EYES ARE WIDE AND WHITE, SPOOKED LIKE THEY'D SEEN A GHOST SING YOU CANARY, SING YOUR SONG BEFORE THE AIR RUNS LOW AND LIKE HOUNDS WE'LL HOWL AT THE MOON, AND THE HAZE WILL CALL OUR NAMES. THE SEASONS WILL CHANGE ALTHOUGH WE'RE NONE THE WISER SO HERE WE'LL STAY, FOR A LITTLE WHILE LONGER

ORCHIDS 03:30
SEE THIS ROW OF ORCHIDS WHERE FLOWERS GROW THERE I SAW A WOMAN WHO I'D SWEAR WOULDN'T HAVE KNOWN LEANING ON THE FENCE AND HOLDING ONTO THE WORLD THE LEAVES SWAYED IN THE WIND CALLING HOME, WE DIE BY DAY AND LIVE BY NIGHT AND WE LIVED BY NIGHT AND DIED BY DAY ROW OF ORCHIDS DIES BY DAY, ROW OF ORCHIDS LIVES BY NIGHT

PALE IS THE MOON ON NIGHTS LIKE THIS AND OUR BROAD BRAWLING VINES CURL UPWARDS, WHILE OLD WAILING WINDS CALL FROM HOME AND OUR BODIES STAY PLANTED IN LOAM WHEN WE GROW WE CYCLE DECIDUOUS, SHEDDING LEAVES AND FLOWERS IN STORMS. WE'LL STILL STAND TOGETHER THROUGH AUTUMN'S CHILL AND WINTER'S COLD PALE IS THE MOON ON NIGHTS LIKE THIS WHILE BROADENING OUR ROOTS IN THE SOIL, WHILE EARTH WORMS AND CRITTERS STIR, THE SKY DARKENS AS CLOUD CURTAINS FALL DARK IS THE GARDEN ON NIGHTS LIKE THIS

OUT BACK THERE'S TALL GRASS THAT MUST BE OF A SHOULDER HEIGHT AND HIDING ROSES AND PLUMS. A ROW OF VINES LEANING ON A TIRED FENCE WITH RUSTED GALVANISED IRON WE DON'T GO WANDERING ALONE THROUGH THE GARDEN WHILE BIRDS CIRCLE AROUND, AND IN FEAR OF THE TRIFFIDS WE STAY 'TIL DAWN AND DON'T MAKE A SOUND WE WAIT THROUGH THE NIGHT FOR THE SUN TO RISE AND WAIT THROUGH THE DAY FOR NIGHT TO FALL WE'D BURIED A BOX OF TRINKETS WITH MARBLES AND PENNIES, THEY'RE THE SEEDS OF SOME OLD MEMORIES. BUT NOTHING WILL GROW IN THE CLAY WITH THAT DRY DIRT STREWN ON TOP WE DON'T GO WANDERING ALONE THROUGH THE GARDEN WHILE BIRDS CIRCLE AROUND, AND IN FEAR OF THE TRIFFIDS WE'LL STAY 'TIL DAWN AND DON'T MAKE A SOUND WHILE BIRDS CLOUD IN THE SUN AND SURROUND PLEASE DON'T GO WANDERING ALONE THROUGH THE GARDEN

about

JARDIN is my first release of 2016, comprising of four songs written and recorded in December of 2015 and January of 2016.

Conceptually the EP is based on a connection with the earth, more specifically envisaging each of us being part of a garden, either seeking a way into the ground or being held there captive.
